Therapeutic Groups

Feeding Groups

Our feeding program focuses on increasing a child's comfort level with foods by exploring and learning about textures, smells, tastes, colors, and consistencies. The approach follows a multi-step hierarchy that allows a child to interact with food in a playful, non-stressful way.

Parent participation, education, and support are an important part of this feeding program. Parents observe the treatment sessions with a trained therapist or participate in the sessions, depending on the child's needs. As carryover is an integral part of feeding therapy, parents are encouraged to participate in sessions and communicate regularly with the therapist.

This approach can be facilitated in an individual therapy setting as well as with small groups of three or four children. Our feeding groups are held once a week. These groups are led by an occupational therapist, a speech-language pathologist, and a social worker.
